As summer camps wrap up, you might be wondering how to keep your teens entertained and engaged for the rest of August. Here are 15 teen-tested activities in Malaga for older kids aged 12-17, to make the most of the last days of summer vacation.

Botanical Garden– Explore the cool and quiet beauty of 150 year old trees in the Jardín Botánico Histórico La Concepción. Extra points by taking the Spanish only tour to test your listening skills!

Day Trips– Visit “cool” 😉 historic sites that are out of the blistering sun, like the Alhambra in Granada, Caves in Nerja and Prehistoric Dolmens in Antequerra, all within a few hours drive of Malaga.

Overnight in a Historical Landmark– For a unique experience, stay in a Parador Hotel. From a Renaissance castle (Úbeda), a Moorish Fortress (Carmona) to a Monastery (Granada), Andalusia is home to the most Parador hotels in all of Spain.

Cultural Festivals – Attend the Malaga Feria! See traditional costumes, food and dancing during the day and have fun at the amusement park next door at night.

Local Tours– Free and low-cost guided tours are everywhere during the summer and perfect way to quickly learn the history of your new town or city. Many are offered in English or challenge your listening skills with a Spanish version.

Read the Classics – Spanish high school often reference their literary classics. Get a head start by reading an abridged or bilingual version: Don Quixote, El Lazarillo de Tormes, or La Celestina.

Volunteer Work – Get involved in community service projects. In Malaga, kids age 14 years and older can volunteer at soup kitchens, animal shelters and non-profit consignment stores.

Ocean Water parks – Skip the crowds at the inland waterparks and head to the beach for the on-the-ocean inflatable slides and trampolines. We enjoy the ones on Malagueta Beach and Marbella.

Escape Rooms – Solve puzzles and mysteries at local escape rooms, these are becoming more popular each year and great for a group of many different ages, from 12 to 90.

Mini Golf– Fun with a small group, 4 courses can be found along the coast of Malaga in Fuengirola, Benalmadena, and Marbella.

Sports Clubs – Join a sports club, some offer special memberships for August and family pricing. Group classes, equipment or even pools with lessons. Teens age 14+ can use most facilities alone. Age 12-14 can go with an adult. Forus Trinidad is an affordable option located in the city center.
